DALTON, GA, January 1, 2008—The fresh and timely aesthetic of Karastan’s latest creations translate classic designs in thoroughly modern fashion. The new looks are defined by relaxed styling, key colors and visual textures that are distinctly different, yet perfectly geared towards today’s interiors.

Villa Veneto (2200-206) from Karastan’s Antique Legends™ Collection

Once again, Karastan pushes the envelope with new techniques that redefine the woven rug category.  This time it is a new “cross hatch” effect, which gives Villa Veneto the most authentic “antique” look the company has ever produced.  Elizabeth Miller, senior vice president of design, explains, “When you look closely at Villa Veneto, you’ll see both horizontal and vertical ‘stria’. This visual texture is achieved by using dozens of meticulously placed colors. The look is beautifully weathered, distressed, aged and worn—all done with color—so as not to alter the renowned durability and quality of Karastan Axminster construction.”

Villa Veneto, which was inspired by a hand-knotted Sultanabad design, is designed in shades reminiscent of the weathered walls of Italian villas. An elegant palette of terra cotta, amber and peacock blue is combined with sumptuous, fully worsted New Zealand wool to provide the ultimate statement in relaxed luxury.

Karastan offers Villa Veneto in 5.9 x 9, 8.8 x 10 and 8.8 x 12 sizes with an estimated retail of $1,299 for a 5.9 x 9.

Mandara (535-16005) from Karastan’s Shapura™ Collection

Mandara, the newest member of Karastan’s top-selling Shapura Collection, features the relaxed patterning and fresh color palettes for which the series is known. Though its design of palmettes and vines has classic origins, its colors are distinctly timely. Most notable is a beautiful 4-color putty coloration that composes Mandara’s ‘stria’ ground. This new neutral—a medley of taupe and grey—is one of the season’s newest, most versatile colors and is exceedingly elegant paired with Mandara’s limestone and brick accents.

Mandara is Axminster woven of fully worsted New Zealand wool and comes in 5.9 x 9, 8.8 x 10 and 8.8 x 12 sizes. Estimated retail is $1,299 for a 5.9 x 9.

Ravenna (549-15008) from Karastan’s Ashara Collection

Karastan brings to market one of the key colors of the year—mocha brown. This warm neutral has become an essential in fashion and the home; especially desired for its luxuriant demeanor. The tantalizing richness of mocha brown fills Karastan’s new Ravennaa quintessential beauty with timeless appeal.

Like so many of Karastan’s classic patterns, Ravenna is inspired by an elegant hand-knotted rug. The large-scale motifs and open ground makes it a perfect showcase for Karastan’s signature “stria”, which is used throughout the Ashara Collection. Accents of amber, soft browns and cherry red add to the winning combination.

Ravenna’s Axminster weave is made of fully worsted New Zealand wool in sizes of
5.9 x 9, 8.8 x 10 and 8.8 x 12. Estimated retail for a 5.9 x 9 is $1, 199.
Villa Veneto, Mandara and Ravenna have been approved to carry the Wools of New Zealand Brand. In addition to standard sizes, each can be hand-seamed to create custom-size rugs in a fraction of the time it would take to hand-knot and import a similar piece.

Studio by Karastan Artworks Collection
The market spotlight also shines on Plum Blossom Maize and Tradewinds—two hand-crafted rugs from the Studio by Karastan Artworks Collection. Plum Blossom Maize strikes a familiar chord as a sibling to the intensely popular Plum Blossom. The highly textural, Asian-inspired design is patterned in budding branches of robin’s egg blue, pearl and chocolate on a fashion-forward ground of maize yellow.  Of equal allure is Trade Winds, an all-over display of long-stem botanical silhouettes that rise above a striated ground of soft silver green.

Karastan uses premium wool in the making of Plum Blossom-Maize and Trade Winds, which gives them a luxurious hand, exceptional color clarity and long-lasting beauty. Viscose accents are added to create subtle shimmering effects. Hand-carving accentuates the delicate details; and contrasts of cut-and-loop yarns further enhance the texture and dimension of these distinctive rugs.

Like all Artworks rugs, Plum Blossom- Maize and Trade Winds are offered in 3.6 x 5.6, 5 x 8, 8 x 10 and 8.6 x 11.6 sizes. Estimated retail is $499 for a 5 x 8.

Karastan’s entire line of area rugs will be on display from January 17-20
at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart, space 3-A-1.
